Artist's Statement

The focus of my work this year has transformed from figurative painting to portraiture. My interest lies in portraits that demonstrate expression and energy in the people that I paint. Conveying emotions that occur in everyday events. Capturing moments in life - through the people I encounter and combining them with cultural images, words and language. Using bold color and shape my mission is to evoke reaction. All of these elements are assembled to conjure an emotional connection to the viewer from the past and present; reflecting on personal insight as a result of individual experiences.

My approach to oil painting is contemporary and expressionistic. I communicate culture and the familiar connecting images that are unrelated and whimsical.
